Making a Wooden Bucket Step One
In this picture Mr. Gaster is coopering at Lincoln's New Salem near Springfield, Illinois. The first step in coopering is choosing the wood. Mr. Gaster has chosen a straight-grained, quarter-sawed Pacific cedar post. He uses a froe, which he has made. Using a wooden mallet he hits the froe splitting the wood in a circular pattern. After making the second cut with the froe he has a stave which will have to be shaped. Be watching for the next step of making a wooden bucket on our next update.
