Gallery of Cultural Encounters
Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History tells the story of the birth of a French expedition by Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle, which sailed from France to establish a colony in the New World. His ship La Belle shipwrecked in Matagorda Bay in 1686 near Corpus Christi. The museum displays artifacts recovered from the shipwreck as well as replicas of those articles such as the barrel in this picture which Jim reproduced. The barrel was custom-made to the exact specifications of those which had been recovered from the sunken ship.
